Wycliffe Management Plan
Client: Nature Conservancy of Canada, The Nature Trust of BC and British Columbia Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development
Project: The Wycliffe Conservation Complex, between Kimberley and Cranbrook, is home to rare grassland ecosystems which support numerous species at risk. Through a partnership between The Nature Conservancy of Canada, The Nature Trust of BC, and the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development the property is managed as a conservation area and is being restored and enhanced to a more natural state.
Services: Masse Environmental was retained to develop a Management Plan to assist in guiding the management of the Complex for the three conservation partners. The plan provides an integrated approach to articulate the conservation features and values of the Complex, identify appropriate levels and types of uses, and prioritize management strategies to guide restoration, enhancement, and conservation actions into the future. The research, engagement, compilation and writing of the management plan was completed in collaboration with the partners to prioritize ecosystem enhancement and restoration while emphasizing the need to balance the protection of ecological values with community stewardship and responsible use.
