Masse Environmental is a Nelson B.C. based company that provides high quality environmental consulting services to a diverse range of clients in the private and public sectors. We are looking for an environmental scientist to join our dynamic team and help us provide innovative and professional solutions to meet our clients needs. The successful candidate’s main responsibility (50-70% of workload) will be to coordinate and implement our groundwater and surface water sampling projects, which involves ~ 50% office and 50% field time. Other tasks may include supporting other field programs including soil sampling, biological sampling, and environmental assessments.
The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Co-ordinate and implement sampling programs, including preparing, ordering and organising bottle orders and field equipment, maintaining and calibrating field equipment, field surveys, and reviewing laboratory reports.
• Managing environmental data.
• Preparing data reports.
• Support professional/senior professional with project management and client liaison.
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
• Strong data management and analysis skills, including demonstrated experience in MS Excel, online databases, preparing trends graph.
• Two years of experience in field data collection (surface and ground water sampling, biological sampling, stream flows).
• Knowledge of provincial and federal water quality guidelines and measures and an interest in developing expertise in the use of these in assessments.
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in an environmental related field, with courses in chemistry, limnology, hydrology, and statistics.
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient with word processing and data management software.
• Willing to work in the field extended hours or in challenging conditions and/or travel when required.
• Proficient in the maintenance and operation of sampling and field equipment and vehicles.
• An ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing circumstances and schedules.
Assets:
• Eligible for a professional designation in BC (e.g., RPBio, BiT, RBTech, P.Ag., A.Ag., AScT)
• Experience with R, QGIS and/or other relevant software.
Compensation range: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and expertise. Other benefits include a cell phone allowance, professional development opportunities, and a health care spending account.
