Kootenay Lake Ferry Design/Build Project

Client: Western Pacific Marine (WPM)

Project: Western Pacific Marine was selected as the Prime Contractor for the Kootenay Lake Ferry Construction Project, commissioned by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI). This significant project entails a combination of in-water and on-land construction activities situated along the shoreline of Kootenay Lake within the City of Nelson.

Services: Masse Environmental was engaged by WPM to deliver comprehensive environmental management, permitting, and monitoring services for the project. Their contributions included the preparation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and the submission of applications for Section 11 Approval - Changes in and About a Stream (CIAS), DFO Request for Review (RFR), and Crown Land Tenure. In terms of monitoring, Masse Environmental conducted a range of services to ensure compliance, such as underwater aquatic surveys, breeding bird surveys, regular bi-weekly to monthly construction monitoring, planning for erosion and sediment control, as well as soil quality testing. Through their diligent efforts, Masse Environmental has played a crucial role in ensuring environmental compliance and promoting sustainable practices throughout the construction process.
